How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? My product engages with the audiences by introducing them to new works of anime and manga. It can also expand their thoughts on the scope of certain completed pieces of work which allows them to think about it even deeper while they’re reading the magazine. Since anime and manga can serve as a type of entertainment when people are bored, so if the readers of my magazine can gain some fun off of the recommendations of the magazine, then that would be a type of engagement as well.
My product can be distributed in bookstores or comic stores. Online access should also be possible for convenience. I think allowing for online rental or partial purchases would also be a good idea; for example, people that only wish to read a certain section can just spend money on that specific section instead of having to pay for the whole product. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? I don’t think my product really challenges convention in any particular ways. Although it is a magazine that will focus primarily on anime, the overall layouts would not vary much from other types. That however does not mean that it won’t challenge convention at all. I would like its way of expression to be more wondrous and of variety.
My product can definitely represent the social group called ‘otaku’, which is the Japanese term for people that hold interest in anime and manga. There are definitely people out in this world that don’t understand the point of animated artworks or even confuse them with cartoons, so it would be nice if my product can present them different aspects regarding these amazing artworks. Many anime as well address controversial issues which allows a greater spread of audience to be aware of it. The clip started with a lively background music which created an almost bright and delighted atmosphere in the beginning. Music then disappeared after the man enters the clinic and all that’s left was the dialogue between Mr. Sopranos and the psychiatrist. This might be done in this way in order to build tension and nervousness between the two people, which also allows their conversation to have a more serious feel to it. Music then enters again when Mr. Sopranos’ flashback begins, along with the sort of obnoxious and dull background music where his narration and dialogue with the psychiatrist. The way sounds approached in this section allowed for the audience to actually ‘hear’ about his story rather than seeing or ‘being in it’. The music as well did not include much dynamic changes but rather remained at the same pace throughout. In the next section of flashbacks however, the asynchronous dialogue in the background gradually transitioned into the diegetic sounds. This synchronization of sounds now brings the audience into the story itself rather than just ‘hearing’ about it, which allows us to have a deeper understand about Mr. Sopranos' life and his relationship with his family.
